Fred is a dog full of energy, and when Farmer Joe gets sick, Fred looks for a way to let him rest without neglecting the farm. There’s a lot of work to do, and his friends, the other animals on the farm, will depend on him. Luckily Fred is not alone, and although the days may seem difficult, it will be possible to overcome the problems. Farm Dog Fred Saves the Day is about friendship and helping, regardless of the difficulties, to achieve a common objective. Sarah Jones shares a great story for children to help them gain self-confidence and overcome obstacles, as Fred did. Children will learn that although we are different, we can all contribute. They will also see the importance of being able to set common goals that not only benefit themselves but their peers as well.
I liked Fred’s personality. He doesn’t look for rewards; he helps others to be happy and that gives him joy. Fred is a great example for children to learn important values such as responsibility, empathy, and solidarity. The illustrations by Noopur Thakur are eye-catching, colorful, and focused on communicating messages of harmony. The writing is simple and clear, so young readers will read easily with enjoyment. The narrative has many useful points to discuss with children to promote the understanding that it is easier to achieve goals together, and how important it is to improve communication with all the people in your environment. Farm Dog Fred Saves the Day by Sarah Jones is a marvelous book that teaches young readers that sometimes we need others for things to go well.
