Fly on the Wall: Detective Annie Avants Crime Fiction Book 5 by Renee Benzaim is a murder mystery. Interstate I5 runs from Canada down to the Mexican border, through Kern County, and law enforcement agencies are struggling to fight the rise in drug trafficking. Kern County Narcotics Division is running a long-term investigation on a farmhouse along I5, the residents of which are alleged to be part of the Mexican Cartel using I5 to deliver their products. A combined raid goes horribly wrong and the body of an informant is left as a message at the house. It's up to Detective Annie Avants and her partner Tom Weston to find out what went wrong, but when Annie badmouths the cartel on international television she disappears. Can Tom find her alive or will he be too late? Who was the snitch who tipped off the cartel about the raid and who is the shadowy character seen at the property?
Fly on the Wall: Detective Annie Avants Crime Fiction Book 5 by Renee Benzaim is a great read, a real edge of the seat thriller. It is a story that is full of action and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep a reader interested; once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The plot is woven in a masterful way, with lots of mystery to keep you guessing. The character development was excellent, with no doubt as to who the main antagonists and protagonists are and what makes them tick. I haven’t read any of the other books that came before this one in the series but, although it would be best to read them in order, I didn’t feel that I missed out any vital character information because there is enough here to make it readable as a standalone book. Great book, very enjoyable and it does make me want to read the rest of the series.
