Keela was excited and eager to start her career as a young archivist in the frozen city of Lumik. She had no idea just how much trouble and danger she was about to face. It all begins with her first task, when, while analyzing a mysterious fragment of Old World technology, she notices its strange energy. Her apprehension and curiosity about her discovery are only deepened when she encounters a trader. He leaves her a subtle message about the fragment’s potential power, warns her of prying eyes after it, and implores her to help keep it away from their reach. With the help of her mentor, friend, and mother, and following the clues, Keela embarks on a perilous mission to uncover the truth behind the fragment’s power and protect it from falling into the wrong hands. Find out how it all goes down in Fragments of Light: Fractured World Saga by Arlen Voss.
If you are looking for a young adult sci-fi novel flavored with epic adventure and a gripping coming-of-age tale, Fragments of Light by Arlen Voss is a great pick. Voss unravels the intriguing plot through a deliberate pace and immersive world-building, effortlessly capturing the beauty of the Arctic backdrop. I could almost see the icy terrain and feel the cold. The foreshadowing and suspense gave the narrative an edge of dread and mystery. This, alongside the historical context and cultural depth, made the story engaging and kept me turning page after page. Voss teases the idea of the collapse of human civilization due to climate change, and a post-apocalyptic renaissance world arising from its ruins. The story emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the lessons of history, lest we repeat them in our ignorance. This page turner is an incredible debut in the Fractured World Saga series. I’ll be on the lookout for the next installments.
