Frogs on the Mountain by Adalgisa and David Nico is a delightful and educational children's picture book. We begin the story with a family camping trip. The next day, their daughter, Adele, asks a park ranger about the loud sound she heard the night before. A nearby park ranger answers her question and explains that it was the sound of the mountain yellow-legged frogs, which are a type of frog found in Yosemite National Park. The ranger then gives a brief lesson on the ecosystem in which these frogs live and how the introduction of trout has endangered the frogs' very survival in the lakes and streams found throughout Yosemite. With beautifully detailed illustrations from Andy Atkins, this visually appealing children's book is both eye-catching and informative.

Frogs on the Mountain by Adalgisa and David Nico would be a wonderful book to include in home and classroom libraries. The book is well-written and easy to follow. Told by the park rangers, we hear the story of the mountain yellow-legged frogs in Yosemite and how there have been intensive efforts to restore these unique amphibians to their natural habitat in Yosemite's waterways. The story also includes some helpful diagrams and facts about these special frogs and their importance in the lifecycle in their habitat. Frogs on the Mountain is a charming story of a family camping trip that turns into a fun educational adventure for the whole family. This story would be great for anyone interested in learning about national parks and for children who enjoy learning about animals.
