Glimpses... Now I Can See, by Elizabeth A Roberts, is a moving and inspiring collection of poetry, essays, and stories by the author, a kind of memoir about losing vision and regaining vision. Her experiences gave her a new perspective, but getting there was sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes enlightening. You will join in her journey of the ups and downs she lived, sometimes with a little humor, and can understand the people and events that helped shape those experiences. When she expresses her confusion, frustration, and doubt, you really feel it, as if you are going through it with her. But besides the painful moments, you will also feel happiness. Sometimes we learn best through the life lessons of others, and this is one of those times. We can learn to be positive, thankful, and strong.
These unique passages conveyed through an equally unique lens are sincere and honest, and the essays and stories are sewn with creativity and wisdom that comes from a deep, personal place. I love the easy way she relates complex ideas, as well as her phrasing and word choice. Her journey with vision lost and found stands as a light to help others going through difficult challenges. One of my favorite parts is her discussion about funerals, and how she explains that she couldn't see, both literally and figuratively. Her message is clear: No matter what life hands you, you can get through it, and thrive. This book would make a great book club discussion or thoughtful gift. If you or someone you know needs motivation to keep trying and reach for more, Glimpses... Now I Can See by Elizabeth A Roberts is the perfect choice.
