Goats in Trees is a children’s picture book by Lucy Simon. In Morocco, you might see creatures in Argan trees that look like birds from afar, but do not be deceived; they are goats. The herd of goats risks their lives to climb so high that they can see the stars. They have special hooves that help them scale trees with grace and incredible skill. They search the branches for green fruits that they chew. They spit out the seeds, which may seem bad-mannered to others. Most people do not know that the seeds they spit onto the ground grow into trees. The goats play an important role in preserving the Argan trees. Goats in Trees contains educational knowledge about nature, a poetic story that can put your children to sleep, and unique art you will not find in any other children’s book. Lucy Simon has combined all these elements in one book and created a masterpiece. I had no idea goats could climb trees, and I am sure many readers will find this information intriguing. The author also narrates how goats are involved in seed dispersion and nature preservation. This enjoyable book has one surprise after another. The poetic narration is perfect because the rhyming words create a steady rhythm that will put your toddler to sleep. The book has beautiful pictures of goats perching in trees, and the background art is classic images of birds, musical notes, patterns, and many more unique pieces. The book is well-written, and its concepts merge together superbly, showcasing the author’s talent. Great work.
