Good Morning, Rainforest by R. C. Roebuck is a children’s rhyming book that begins with the sun greeting the marvelous rainforest. The rhyme paints a vibrant picture of the rainforest, focusing on several of its elements and inhabitants, as well as the interaction between them. It closes with the sun sinking. The beautifully illustrated book covers the activities taking place in the rainforest over the course of a day. Although it is primarily written in English, it contains words from the endangered Macushi language, accompanied by both pronunciation and translation.

R. C. Roebuck’s Good Morning, Rainforest is enthralling, to say the least. The soothing rhythm, the captivating imagery, and the euphonious words from the Macushi language transported me to the featured rainforest at once. I absolutely loved how the book unfolded the day before my eyes and smoothly folded it back, with a note of hope at the end. Roebuck did an amazing job in making sure that the Macushi words fitted well in the lines. I would admit that I was previously unfamiliar with the language, and when I saw it mentioned right at the beginning of the book, I felt rather intrigued. I looked it up right away and learned a few things about the language and the community in the process. I think that the book can not only foster love for nature in the hearts of young readers but also make them curious about diverse languages around the globe; in today's world, both of these are equally important.
