The stories that his grandpa told couldn’t possibly be true. There was no possible way that Grandpa Albert, who was nearly 90 years old could be a Martian. However, that’s exactly what he told his grandson Nicholas in Grandpa’s a Martian, written by Tom Wehrman and illustrated by Tina Dunnier. The story had been floating around for decades. Grandpa Albert had even told Nicholas’ dad the same stories about being a Martian. No one had ever believed the stories, but when Nicholas was visiting his Grandpa Albert in the nursing home, Grandpa Albert told him that he needed for him to find his buried spaceship behind the barn and press the restore button. The restore button would make Grandpa Albert a little boy once more. Eager to make Grandpa Albert into a little boy again, Nicholas insists on going out behind the barn in the cow pasture and digging under the tree where Grandpa Albert said the ship was buried. His parents told him that it was too dangerous, but Nicholas simply had to help his Grandpa Albert. Were the stories true? Would Nicholas find the space ship and press the restore button for Grandpa Albert?

Grandpa’s a Martian is a short but sweet children’s picture book with excellent illustrations and a simple, imaginative story that is certain to stir the imagination of young readers. Colorful, imaginative and full of a sense of mystery, Grandpa’s a Martian is the perfect addition to the bookshelf of an imaginative child, especially one who loves spaceships.
