This story is about Hashtag, a Chihuahua, once a champion high jumper, who has become overweight due to his poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Hashtag realizes he is unhappy and decides to get back into shape with the help of his friend, Coach Crunch.

I chose to read Hashtag Gets Healthy... and Hits the High Jump with my 4-year-old daughter. She happened to like the story simply because Hashtag is a Chihuahua. Since we own a Chihuahua, she was able to imagine that it was her dog doing everything that Hashtag did. She also liked the illustrations, which are colorful and cutely drawn to show a dog’s world.

Overall, my daughter and I liked Hashtag Gets Healthy... and Hits the High Jump by Kristen Delphos. The wording in the story is not too difficult and many kids may be able to read it by themselves. My opinion as a mother was that I liked the point that Delphos was trying to make, which is to eat right and take care of yourself. I think that this would be a good story to help encourage kids to get into shape.
