In Heart of Stone by Andrea Cannon, Pamela Vargas - a long time divorce lawyer - has a very cynical outlook on love and marriage along with pretty much everything dealing with the workings of a serious relationship. Although Pamela sees love and happiness with her assistant, Stacy, that does not deter Pamela from the belief that love never ends well. Alex seems to be the perfect guy for a woman with the mind set to avoid love and commitment at all costs. Pamela casually dates Alex for more than a year, always keeping him at a distance from her personal life. Alex gives Pamela a choice; to be with him or not, no more hiding and no more casual dates. With Pamela’s bitter past, how will she respond to the seemingly perfect Alex? Should she make the commitment he asks of her or run and never look back?

I loved Heart of Stone by Andrea Cannon with its subtle hints at love in between the casual relationship shared by the main characters. Cannon makes it easy to bond with the characters and feel what they feel as she lays out the plot in a very realistic manner. Cannon shows great skill in this short romantic novella that allows the reader to get caught up in the emotions and tensions of the relationship. I would recommend Heart of Stone to anyone that likes to kick back with short romantic tale. Definitely a five star romance that proves that a story doesn’t need to be long and drawn out to be great. This story was wonderful!
