Treat yourself to an inspirational tale of overcoming the odds with Hit the Buzzer: I Can Be an Ultimate Ninja by Mike Silenzi, Jesse Labreck, Jackie Piejak, and Jeff Piejak. On his first day at Ultimate Ninjas, Liam sees kids swinging on the rings, rock climbing, and running up a huge curved wall to hit the buzzer. Liam can't wait to get his chance. However, his first few tries don't go as he envisioned. He was feeling a bit down when coaches Mike and Jesse assured him that everyone struggled in the beginning. Determined to do better, Liam attends the ninja gym week after week and practices. Additionally, he utilizes aspects of his ninja training while doing chores and even studying. Soon, he gives a memorable performance in a ninja competition, and now, he has set himself a new goal to achieve.
With indomitable will, resilience, and perseverance, humans are capable of mastering whatever they set out to do. This message is beautifully incorporated in Hit the Buzzer -- a picture book for young readers. Authors Mike Silenzi, Jesse Labreck, Jackie Piejak, and Jeff Piejak tell a heartwarming tale that showcases the power of the human spirit and how it gives us the strength to conquer our doubts and fears. Anyone who has ever played sports or participated in any athletic activity as a kid will be able to relate to Liam. As a reader, you can't help but root for him. I also loved how coaches Mike and Jesse offered him the necessary support and encouragement to achieve his dreams. The illustrations by Alejandro Echavez make the story even more enjoyable for the young reader. This is a motivational book parents that should definitely introduce to their children. Highly recommended.
