In I Don’t Think So! by K. Joyner, readers follow the charming story of Mia, a young girl who approaches new experiences with a skeptical “I don’t think so!” attitude. With gentle humor and engaging storytelling, the book introduces Mia’s world, from her family’s house and city to her school and the imaginative adventures she shares with her classmate Cody. As Cody encourages Mia to jump over puddles, play on the monkey bars, and even explore books as portals to far-off places, we see Mia slowly open up to trying new things. The delightful, colorful illustrations by Asha Butler complement the text beautifully, capturing the playful yet hesitant nature of Mia’s journey. This book is a thoughtful celebration of imagination and courage, showing how even the most reluctant kids can learn to embrace new experiences.

When I read I Don’t Think So! by K. Joyner, I found myself smiling at how closely Mia’s cautious nature mirrors what I’ve often seen in young children. Many of us, whether educators, parents, or caregivers, know a “Mia”, a child who hesitates to try new things or feels uneasy stepping outside their comfort zone. This book captures that familiar reluctance with sensitivity and shows how imagination and gentle encouragement can transform hesitation into excitement. Cody’s role as a supportive friend reminded me of how we can encourage curiosity and resilience in children by providing steady guidance and reassurance. The illustrations, vibrant and full of character, beautifully enhance the story’s message and invite readers into Mia’s world. Overall, I Don’t Think So! offers a thoughtful, heartwarming message that resonates with young readers and provides a gentle reminder of the importance of encouragement and understanding in helping children explore new experiences.
