If Dad Can Do It, So Can I by Jonathan Marshall is a lovely book for children that the author dedicates to his family. Beautifully illustrated pages are enriched with short chapters in verse written from the perspective of a small boy as he shadows his dad in various activities they do together. Parental love and the boy’s affection for his dad are central to the story. Many activities described by the boy sparkle with light-hearted humor and excitement as the boy compares his efforts, achievements, and failures with what his dad does and achieves. Some episodes are sure to get a child giggling, enjoying the mischief of the adventures, while a stricter parent may suffer a significant jaw drop.

Reading If Dad Can Do It, So Can I by Jonathan Marshall, I loved the bond between the boy and his loving and adventurous dad. Being a daughter, I found it highly relatable because the activities and the relationship between the boy and his father reminded me of many episodes of my childhood with my dad that I thoroughly enjoyed, often getting much frowning from my stricter mum. The format, with full-page illustrations and short chapters in verse, makes this story entertaining for children ages three and up. I wholeheartedly recommend it as a great bedtime read for parents and their toddlers.
