Author Biography

Mario Gabriel Adame, born in San Antonio, Texas, is the youngest son of Rafael and Theresa Adame. Rafael served in the U.S. Army for eleven years before receiving a medical discharge as a Staff Sergeant. Rafael moved on to work as a teacher, coach, and a Texas regional manager in sales and marketing. Theresa had been employed in the psychiatry department at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for over twenty years, where she recently retired as Senior Secretary.

Growing up in the Mexican American culture of San Antonio, Mario Gabriel Adame experienced first hand the history of his grandfather, Anselmo Martinez, who is renowned in the Tejano Music Awards Hall of Fame as a singer, songwriter, and performer. Most recently in 2013, Anselmo received a lifetime faith-based award from the Governor of Texas. The legacy of his grandfather carried on toward his uncle, John Martinez, a multi-Grammy nominee, who helped Mario learn the business and art of music. Whether it was military men on his father's side, musical talent on his mother's side, or religious guidance coming from both sides of the family, Mario learned value of having stories and people to depend on. Four women who he could always lean on were his two late grandmothers, Sulema and Aurora, his aunt, Salesian Sister Betty Ann, and his mother. Each provided Mario with the positivity of prayer verses and song lyrics from Catholic faith to turn to. The pleasure of lyrics, beats, and dance will always inspire Mario, and this passion can be seen in his first published book entitled Ignite Your Soul, Release Your Mind Vol. 1.

After high school, while staying true to those ideas and relationships that originated in San Antonio, Mario went on to find extended passions and admirable friends from numerous Texas cities and with international backgrounds while in Austin. Mario studied in the Kinesiology and Education Department at The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science major towards Health Promotion.

For many, the only way that they can express themselves is through the written word. In Ignite Your Soul, Release Your Mind Vol. 1 by author Mario Gabriel Adame, this is exemplified through his extensive use of poetry and figurative language. The book has seven different sections that relate to different parts of someone's life. Personally written, this book will touch your heart and make you smile. Adame has a true gift with words, especially in poetry. All of his fears, joys, and frustrations are on paper for the world to see. His transparency is contagious, and his joy in writing evident. Adame truly has the heart of an artist, and will change your perspective through his poems.

Mario Gabriel Adame, author of Ignite Your Soul, Release Your Mind Vol. 1, describes poetry as "my self-maintaining emotional thermostat." Throughout his beautifully written collection of poetry, this truth becomes more and more apparent. Adame is a prolific poet, with a unique ability of taking his life experiences and turning them into art. Overall, I was very impressed with this book. One of my favorite poems was called 'My Place.' Immediately, I was taken into the mind of Adame, walking through his experiences right with him. This book is a beautiful recollection of the human spirit and its triumphs and trials. If you are a poetry enthusiast, or want to try something new, I recommend that you read this amazing work. Transparent, humble, and raw; this book will not disappoint your need for an escape outside of reality.

Ignite Your Soul, Release Your Mind Vol. 1 by Mario Gabriel Adame asks us what place does reality have in this digital age? It points out that reality is more than tweets of 140 characters. When we truly connect to reality via dreams, diseases, death, conflicts, romance, and the people in between, our intimate thoughts and feelings take us on a spiritual journey through uncertain times. When we begin this quest, we will reveal every connection and find ways to implant ourselves among the paths we take. We will find that living language is an art and a poetry all on its own and this book of poems is designed to show a way to explore and to learn.

It has been a while since I have read a book of poems and with this selection I found I had to read the book twice to get the full effect. With that said, the poems are amazingly deep and well thought out. You can truly see that Mario Gabriel Adame put his heart and soul into the words that he wanted to say. I took away a different meaning than some might, but that is the pure joy of poetry where the same poem can speak to different people in different ways. This collection of poems melds well together and, when read in order, seems to tell a special kind of story and reveal a full journey. If you like poetry and like to spend time deeply thinking about what you have read, I would highly recommend this set of poems for you.

The book is divided into seven different sections and in each section is a new set of poems that open a new chapter and speak to a new theme; but ultimately the whole book delivers touching messages on the subjects of love, passion, compassion, inspiration, self-discovery, family, femininity and many others. Beneath the words of each beautifully written poem you will discover a fresh message, or more than one message, delivered through those simple words. Mario Gabriel Adame included a poem for every emotion and for every occasion in this book and whatever your mood or whatever message you want to convey, you will find a poem that will agree with your thoughts.

The poems in Ignite Your Soul, Release Your Mind Vol. 1 are beautifully written and Mario Gabriel Adame's talent shows in the way the poems clearly portray raw emotions without being too blatant. I was able to feel the different emotions beneath the surface of the well crafted words that form these poems. It is amazing how these poems touched the core of my thoughts with such messages that are subtle and yet so profound. Mario Gabriel Adame wrote the kind of poems that speak to people across generations and across different lifestyles and social setups; there is a poem in there for everyone and for every situation. I loved reading each poem and the deep messages conveyed therein.
