Inna Tamir’s Falling Through the Net Hole is fantastic visionary fiction, and Vera is a woman who I found easy to connect with. The author fleshes her out as someone committed to her spiritual beliefs, which gives Vera a wonderfully individual outlook. We see this when she tries to connect her chakras with Adrian’s during a movie. Adrian is brilliantly written, and he's given a warmth that develops naturally around Vera. That warmth runs through their relationship, with one example coming during Rosh Hashanah, when he takes her into his childhood room. The prose is pitch-perfect, but where the author truly shines is in the ability to immerse readers in the settings, from a Mexico City club recreated as Venice beneath painted balconies, to San Cristóbal market stalls packed with spices. Well-written and imaginative, readers who enjoy visionary fiction will adore this second book in the Butterflies on the Net series.

I never quite knew where the story was going to take Vera next, which kept me interested throughout.

I found Falling Through the Net Hole by Inna Tamir to be a very unusual and unpredictable story. Vera is a particularly complicated protagonist. She can be funny, caring, and incredibly compassionate, but she can also be impulsive, obsessive, and frustrating. Her intense feelings for Adrian sometimes made me want to shake some sense into her, but they also made her feel very human. I liked watching her gradually confront the difference between loving someone and becoming consumed by them. The relationship between Vera and Adrian is probably the most emotionally challenging part of the story. There are moments of genuine tenderness between them, but there is also a constant sense of uncertainty. I appreciated that the story didn't make Vera's journey purely about "getting the guy"; instead, it increasingly becomes about understanding herself and what she is willing to sacrifice for someone she loves. The book is very introspective, with a lot of attention given to Vera's thoughts and emotions. However, I think that suits the story because so much of it is about her internal journey. Ultimately, this is an unusual, emotional, and imaginative story about the hardest part of loving someone.
