In A Dream, written by Ann Hoang and illustrated by Charity Russell, takes us on a magical journey on a ship that sails along a stream. During this dream, there are many encounters, such as the rainbow-spouting whale and an octopus who loves to drum out a beat. While the dream continues there are sea horses who love to dance underwater and flying fish who love jumping in and out of the water. Porpoises lead a parade of fish as a mermaid rests peacefully on a reef while singing to the starfish at her feet. Parrots watch from the land in their trees as the moonlight comes out and is reflected in the water. It’s a perfect path for the ship of dreams. The ocean creatures wave goodbye as you wake up to the sunlight.

In A Dream has a really poetic feeling to it. As I was reading the story, it felt like I was reading a poem about ocean dreams. The words flowed beautifully and you can picture this underwater adventure. The illustrations are bright and colorful and go perfectly with the text. It’s a very calming read that I think children will love to hear as a bedtime story. The young reader also learns about ocean wildlife as well. They learn what sea horses, starfish, whales, and porpoises are as the ship sails through the dream stream. I find it a very relaxing story and I feel that children will as well. Overall, I think Ann Hoang has done a wonderful job with creating such a poetic sounding bedtime story, while Charity Russell brought the dream to life with her gorgeous illustrations. I can’t wait to see more of this author's works.
