Can a near tragedy eventually lead to love? In Two Hearts’ Ambush by Tamara Ferguson, Lara Loughlin, a rising rock star who performs under a stage name, has returned to her hometown of Crystal Rock for a break from her busy life. She’s hoping to enjoy some time with family and friends, but old memories and painful events from her past still linger. Then there’s Zachary Nash. He’s an Air Force Captain, wounded in the line of duty, trying to figure out what the future holds. When they spot each other across the runway, there's an instant attraction. Zach asks her out, and the more time they spend together, the stronger the pull becomes. Then a string of unsettling incidents puts the whole community on edge. Soon, clues begin to suggest that Lara may be closer to the threat than anyone first realized. Now she and Zach must deal with challenges from the past just as they begin planning a future together. Can they find lasting happiness together—or will danger get in the way?

I thoroughly enjoyed Two Hearts’ Ambush by Tamara Ferguson. As I was reading, one word kept coming to mind: sparks. And it was those sparks that kept me turning the pages. This story blends romance, suspense, and personal healing. I liked the writing style, and the steady pace worked well. I also appreciated how the mystery added tension without taking away from the relationship at the heart of the story. My favorite part was definitely the chemistry between Lara and Zach. He also stood out because he doesn’t let the life-changing injuries define him. I thought it was wonderful how Lara and Zach accepted each other for who they were without question. There were plenty of reasons why their differences and personal struggles could have created distance between them, but instead those struggles helped strengthen their bond. Readers who enjoy romantic suspense, wounded warrior romances, strong emotional connections, and protective heroes will find a lot to like here. Two Hearts’ Ambush is a complex but enjoyable story filled with heart, danger, and hope, and I'm glad I read it.

Two Hearts’ Ambush is the thirty-second installment in Tamara Ferguson’s Two Hearts Wounded Warrior Romance series. Lara Loughlin is back home in Crystal Rock, Wisconsin, for the summer. She has traded her rock star alter ego, Lainie Reardon, for a quieter life by the lake. She wants to stay anonymous and enjoy an ordinary life during her off time. Enter Captain Zachary Nash, a mechanical engineering genius and double amputee who has arrived to modernize the private airport’s fleet for disabled pilots. There is an instant connection the moment they lay eyes on each other. Even as their relationship grows, Lara keeps her famous identity a secret, enjoying the rare chance of being loved for just herself. What neither of them bargained for is a darker shadow creeping over Crystal Rock. A serial rapist is targeting women along the local nature trails. Does the threat have anything to do with Lara’s buried past? And could Lara herself be the next target?

I felt the romance in Tamara Ferguson’s Two Hearts’ Ambush was like a story where friendship is first, and passion is second. A lot is happening, but the pace never felt frantic or hurried. In fact, this is a love story that actually has room to breathe. Zach made me root for him, not because he’s brooding and tortured, but because he’s determinedly trying to get his life back. I loved how details about Zach designing his own prosthetics are included without too much melodrama. There’s also a scene where Zach addresses the airport’s disabled pilots, simply asking what’s been making their jobs harder. I liked how Ferguson treats disability with the same matter-of-fact dignity her characters show each other. Zach’s journey from being someone wounded and full of self-doubt to getting back his confidence is well written. Lara also suffered a trauma in the past, but she’s shown as someone eager to get the most out of life, and this attitude was infectious. There is a suspense angle, but it never overshadows the heart of the story, although it does add a sense of urgency. If you love wounded warrior romance and small-town charm, then this is a series worth starting from the beginning. That being said, Two Hearts’ Ambush is a good entry point all on its own.

Two Hearts' Ambush by Tamara Ferguson tells the story of Lara Loughlin, a painfully quiet girl who secretly teaches herself guitar to escape the shadow of her famous relatives. Over a decade later, she is successfully ruling the charts under a hidden rock persona, away from the prying eyes of her hometown. Looking for a peaceful summer to recharge, she retreats to her family's beautiful lakeside property. Her world tilts when she meets Zach, an honorably retired captain dealing with severe combat injuries who takes a job upgrading local planes. Sparks fly almost immediately, but Lara keeps her fame a secret, wanting to be loved for her true self rather than her stage persona. Meanwhile, a string of terrifying, violent crimes threatens the whole community. As the danger slowly closes in, will Lara be able to protect herself? More importantly, will she finally be able to let her guard down and tell Zach who she truly is, and will he finally embrace the real woman behind the stage name?

Two Hearts' Ambush by Tamara Ferguson is a contemporary romance that deeply explores the emotional recovery of a wounded veteran discovering a renewed sense of purpose. I was really moved by the respectful depiction of Zach’s transition into his engineering career and the realistic pride he takes in his work. The novel treats his physical and emotional journey with immense dignity, making his instant attraction to Lara feel like a natural extension of his healing process. Ferguson’s writing style is very warm and inviting. Her prose focuses on deep, emotional dialogue and family ties a lot, which actually helps move the plot along nicely. Personally, I think the ultimate payoff is watching Zach and Lara find total sanctuary in one another despite the chaos swirling around them. This romantic tale is a must-read for fans who adore honorable heroes, strong-willed heroines, and stories where love is the ultimate haven.
