One of the things Bethany Lopez always achieves in her novels is creating real characters that are easy to love and root for and Indelible is no different. Indelible is the story of Sam, a young college student and a single parent. Unlike the typical skinny blonde college girl who gets knocked up by her boyfriend, Sam is a size 12 reformed party girl who fell pregnant as a result of a one night stand. Lonely but satisfied with her life with her two-year-old daughter Karrie, Sam decides men and relationships are things she can do without. When Sam meets Judd, her libido is attracted more than she is, easily identifying him as the player he proudly is. Her seeming indifference to the handsome baseball player only makes him try harder, in the spirit of players the world over.
The love story of Sam and Judd is quite sweet and not overly dramatic. It is the story of two regular people getting to know one another and slowly falling in love. I do wish Bethany Lopez would have given actual examples of Judd’s past as a player instead of having James and Tucker allude to it. That was the only element missing that would have made me appreciate the changes Judd was making for Sam and Karrie all the more. I love that Judd doesn’t make any big pronouncements about changing his ways; he simply just starts acting like a man who cares about something other than getting laid. It made the transition seem more genuine.
Indelible is a sweet romance that is not packed with unnecessary drama. Of course there are a few steamy scenes that might make you envy Sam but it is not the basis of their relationship.
