In Infinite Retribution by Robert Stadnik, humans and several alien races work together and defeat their common enemy, the Screen. Several years later, the established alliance between the different races is further cemented with new ships built with integrated alien tech to benefit the human military force in terms of space exploration. Captain Annette Nikols and the crew of the INFINITY, one of the new starships, are tasked to patrol the space and investigate the star systems previously controlled by their former enemy. Nikols and her crew have faith in their new ship to withstand and deal with any unexpected trouble. However, what they are about to encounter will test their unity when their enemy gets the better of them.

As part of Robert Stadnik's Exodus sci-fi starship adventure, newcomers to the series will have to familiarize themselves with the world-building and the Exodus universe. Still, there is enough backstory to fill in the necessary details for this spin-off. Infinite Retribution is set in a future filled with incredible space tech and collaboration with interesting alien species. There is much to discover in the ambitions and dispositions of the characters. Captain Annette Nikols is capable and has admirable enthusiasm, expected in one who has worked hard for years to achieve her rank. Yet she is also cunning, as her second in command, Commander Frank Rola, has been warned by someone who knows how determined Nikols is to get what she wants. Along with several suspenseful scenes and unexpected dark elements, themes of obedience, loyalty, and trust are essential factors in the story's plot. With personal conflict and justification now an issue for humans and aliens alike, Infinite Retribution is a solid sci-fi tale with sufficient drama and action.
