Infinity: There Be Pirates by Catalina DuBois is the second book in the Buccaneer series. Sir Matthew Galahad intended to capture the legendary Wraith during his last voyage. The crew members of the Resolute sought the trade ship Atlantis, which was rumored to be the Wraith’s next target. Unfortunately, Atlantis was under attack by ghostly figures from the Wraith. When Galahad discovered that the ship was an impostor, a large pirate crew attacked the Resolute. Galahad attempted to attack Captain Jack Calico until he heard a gun cock at his ear. Anne Bonny forced his surrender. He was stunned when he discovered that his wife was alive and now the captain of a pirate ship. Sarah’s feelings of betrayal saw their reunion end with Galahad and his crew in a cage. The story of the events that led up to that moment then unfolds.
Catalina DuBois created an intriguing pirate romance. The appealing illustrations and titles of each chapter were excellent additions. I was delighted to see the perspectives of Galahad, Sarah, and several supporting characters filling the pages. The transitions between each character’s view and the timeline from past to present were well-defined. There were multiple sub-stories described in vivid detail. The betrayal was shocking, and learning exactly what Galahad had done made Sarah’s anger understandable. The supporting characters also played a significant role in the plot. It built tension and intensity as injuries, stormy seas, and relationships put everyone on edge. The unpredictable storyline captured my attention fully, and I could not stop reading until the end, which left an opening for the sequel. Despite being the second book in the series, Infinity can be regarded as a standalone romance for adult readers to enjoy.
