Fr. Mark Escobar shares his Christian journey with readers. He likens his journey to Jeremiah; we are to be pliable, moldable like clay. God is the potter, and He will shape us into usable vessels. As I read this part, I was reminded of the song “Have Thine Own Way.” God began to mold and shape Escobar.
As Escobar studied the scripture and prayed, he was struck by the struggles of the early church to feed the poor. We live in a world fraught with materialism. We are taught early on that we are to achieve more and more. We are judged by our possessions.
I particularly enjoyed the section dealing with women of the Bible. Rahab, Hagar, Ruth, Miriam, and Deborah are each women of the Bible. Each has a unique story, and we can learn much from them.
Inner Journey by Fr. Mark Escobar is his spiritual transformation. For His transforming power is at work within us. Escobar has traveled extensively throughout his ministries: Mexico, Rome, Manila, and Australia. In each place he helped others and shared the love of Christ, but in each place he also received God’s wisdom. Inner Journey is not an easy read. This book is not for the common layman. While the message is a beautiful one, it is written in a professional style. I recommend Inner Journey for Pastors and layworkers.
