In Interview with the Devil, Michael Harbron delves into the fascinating life of Joseph Banbury, a religious skeptic. Joseph grew up with an overly religious mother who taught him to despise all things deemed evil. Joseph, a budding author, published a book that criticizes organized religion. He sees religion as the greatest deception known to man. Joseph experiences writer's block, so the Devil visits him and agrees to do a groundbreaking interview. Joseph hopes this interview will get his creative juices flowing again. Through this interview, Joseph learns that his incredibly pious mother made a pact with the Devil many years ago and bartered Joseph's soul to save the life of her dying husband. How will this shocking truth affect Joseph's identity and present reality? How will it transform his future?

Interview with the Devil is an engaging and irresistible novel that will delight horror fans. Michael Harbron skillfully merges horror, psychology, and philosophy and uses these genres to explore the myths surrounding spirituality. The world-building is exceptional and adds a level of intrigue to the plot. Harbron does a remarkable job of exploring the dynamics between religion, morality, and humankind through Joseph's unique experiences. Joseph's character representation brings this novel to life. I love how Harbron explores the startling events that Joseph experienced in his childhood. These very events were crucial in shaping Joseph's religious skepticism years later. The actual interview with the Devil and Joseph's past encounters create two overlapping sides of the same coin. I would love to see how Joseph resolves his cognitive dissonance in book two. If you're a fan of paranormal thrillers and intriguing horror stories, congrats, you're in the right place. Interview with the Devil is the perfect must-read for you.
