It's OK Little Rain Cloud to Cry, by Charlie Shull, is a 25-page-long children’s illustrated picture book. It deals with helping young children process emotions, especially when they don’t understand the source. One night a little rain cloud starts off feeling blue. Perhaps because it was dark, or still night, the feelings are there? But no, that isn’t it. Because even when the sun comes out and brightens the day, those dark feelings remain. He has no appetite, his ‘blueness’ continues to grow, and even though he has many friends who want to play, his mood just keeps getting worse. Finally, he arrives at a wise mountain that gives him some sage advice.

Growing up can be scary for small children, especially when there are times when things just feel wrong. This book is an excellent way to bring a young reader through the little rain cloud’s adventures and teach a thing or two about our emotions. I love the artwork too. It’s colorful, silly, fun, and engaging for readers. Each page has enough detail to encourage the reader to slow down and not only enjoy the artwork, but also absorb the message being delivered. There is a song at the end of the book that explains how important it is to cry at times because that is part of our human nature. It's OK Little Rain Cloud to Cry, by Charlie Shull, is a clear winner that will help many kids in processing emotions like grief, even when they can’t pinpoint its origin. Highly recommended.
