Jamie's Journey: Cancer from the Voice of a Sibling by Sharon Wozny is a thoughtful children's book for all the siblings of cancer patients around the world to help them understand that their feelings are valid. The lives of thirteen-year-old Jamie and her ten-year-old sister, Jordan, are pretty normal until one day when Jordan starts to have strange headaches. After some appointments with the doctor, Jordan and her family learn that she has cancer. Thus, not only does Jordan's life take a big turn, but Jamie's does too. From the moment her sister starts to go to the hospital for her cancer treatments, Jamie goes through a whirlwind of emotions: worry, relief, happiness, anger, pride, loneliness, fear, confusion, jealousy, guilt, love, and more.
Jamie's Journey: Cancer from the Voice of a Sibling by Sharon Wozny is a helpful, valuable, and must-have book for every family with children on a cancer journey. This fantastic book not only tells the story of two sisters and how cancer affected their lives, but it also contains a journal that helps siblings of pediatric cancer patients express their feelings, positive or negative, make sense of their emotions, and share their story. With poignant text and sweet illustrations by Melissa Bailey, this part-story, part-journal is also a reminder to parents that while they may focus on one child's medical needs, they also should let the other one know they are not forgotten but are loved and treasured. Every sibling of pediatric cancer patients who struggle with complex emotions should read this book to better cope with the wide range of feelings they might be experiencing.
