Jett (Descended Book 1) by Dana Pratola is a suspenseful Christian romance reminiscent of the Regency Gothic style. Haven is a budding artist who her father constantly derides. She is only happy when she can sit down and paint the images that come to her as visions. She is deeply devout and has strong principles against which she judges herself. When an enigmatic businessman contacts her to commission an artwork, her life comes to a crossroads. She has to decide between the family business and her painting career. Once the decision was made, she had to move into the businessman’s house to finish the mural he had commissioned. While there, she meets the staff and Jett’s grandmother. They become close. She has experiences that lead her to believe the mansion must be haunted. Then there is the illusive Jett, who preferred speaking with her from his office over an intercom. Little did she know how Jett would change her life.

Dana Pratola has written an atmospheric and colorful romance that is filled with intrigue and sexual tension. Written in good taste, this Christian romance has enough fictitious elements to make it a great reading experience while remaining faithful to Christian morals and values. The author has a magnificent way of making Haven’s Christian values feel like an extension of the character herself whilst not making the book come across as a Bible lesson. I was impressed with the whole package, as sometimes Christian fiction writers have trouble bringing a story and characters to life in a world consumed by secularism. Well done on a wonderful work of fiction, may there be many more. Jett will find a place on my favorites pile.
