"Journey With Me ABC" by J. Adams is a short and colorful book that helps teach kids about the alphabet and what words start with each letter. This book also informs children about which letters function as vowels and how to use them. The rhymes put together for each letter are entertaining and well-thought-out. Each letter has multiple words to use as examples so that your child will have the opportunity to learn the alphabet faster and in a broader way. The letters flow from one to the next in a smooth manner. This would be a delightful book to read to your children as they are learning the alphabet.
The thing I enjoyed the most about this book was the bright colored squares that are used on each page as a template to display the letter, images and the text upon. I think it is nice to have each of the letters displayed both as uppercase and lowercase; that way the child will be familiar with both sets of forms the letter can take. Most alphabet books seem to have only one example for each letter, so it is nice that this book has multiple examples. Furthermore, I enjoyed that the images jumped off of the bottom of the colored rectangles as you got to the end of each letter’s page. It helped to move the rhymes along and get the reader interested as to what would come next. I think this would be a great book for children to use and enjoy when learning their ABCs.
