In June's Double Rainbow by Cheryl Holloway, when June receives a phone call from fiancé Greg, her whole life and future come crashing down around her. He cruelly and abruptly ends their relationship and June tries to come to terms with life alone. An opportunity arises for her to escape the trauma of her personal life and travel to Paris for a work conference. It is not long before June meets Guillaume, an alluring Frenchman who sweeps her off her feet. They feel an instant attraction to one another which quickly turns to love. Sadly, June has to return home and bids farewell to her true soul mate. Guillaume keeps his promise to remain in contact with her. June feels her life will finally get the happy ending she deserves. Then without warning, the phone calls suddenly stop.
This beautifully written romance is complete escapism. Each of the characters has been well developed, considering the length of the story, and the dialogue revealed a great deal about their personalities. I felt the relationship between June and Guillaume was absolutely charming, especially when he explained the meaning of the double rainbow to her; that was a special moment between them. The ending when June comes face to face with her past was a ‘punch in the air’ moment for me. The story is summed up by this quote within the book, ’The complacency of fools shall destroy them’. I believe there is a strong message within the pages of this novel; that everything happens for a reason and sometimes you must allow fate to take its course.
