Lash 4 (Revenge) by Tara Fox Hall is the fourth installment in the Lash series, but it can be read as a standalone novel without the previous three. This dark fantasy plot follows protagonist Lash, a creature described as a weresnake, who has a collection of impressive and violent abilities that he puts to good use in his desire to hunt down and destroy a demon by the name of Hex. Lash’s journey to find Hex leads him to address the demons of his past in a deep and complex plot full of vivid characters and interesting locations. There is also a realistic and astutely emotional love story in the latter section of the book which is valuable to the story as a whole.

Fans of the action genre will adore Lash 4 (Revenge) for its unabashed violence and true-to-form machismo, but demon characters like Shaker and Absalom also present refreshing humor sure to tickle anyone’s funny bone. Though the plot is focused on high drama and action, there is also room to see the development of Lash as he transitions from a tortured soul into a compassionate hero who puts his demons to rest (sometimes literally). Tara Fox Hall also does a stunning job in creating an edgy masculine voice for Lash as the tale’s narrator and takes the time to fully develop each member of her supporting cast. The result is a rich world that feels realistic, exciting and sometimes terrifying. The ultimate conclusion to Lash’s quest for revenge was delightfully clever and left me with a huge sense of satisfaction after such an exhilarating ride.

Lash 4: Revenge by Tara Fox Hall brings us back into the world of Lash as he searches for revenge on the Demon Hex who was the cause of his best friend vampire Abraham Hamilton’s death. With a collection of new friends to help him, like fellow weresnake soldier Dieter, Lash's current vampire boss Devlin Dalcon, and the demon Shaker, Lash digs into Abraham's past and finds himself asking questions as he does. If that was not enough, there are vampires being found burned indoors and a group of supernatural hunters taking out werewolves and other supernatural beings.

This is the most complicated of the Lash books so far and it really gives you something to sink your teeth into. There are a lot of different story lines coming together in this one, but at no time do you feel like there is too much. Lash has to keep up a break-neck pace but he does so with a certain aplomb you can’t find in every heroic type. I have enjoyed the books up until now and this met my expectations. Lash keeps getting better and better and you can tell that Tara Fox Hall has hit a certain stride with the series now. If you love a supernatural adventure and want to dig into more creatures then just vampires, this is a fantastic read for you to try. I would highly recommend this to first time supernatural readers and veterans alike.

Lash just got out of the war and he is hell bent on entering another one. This time the fight is to avenge his best friend and former boss, Abraham. As he investigates the crime and who is accountable for it, Lash discovers secrets that make him question Abraham’s character and if he’s justified in looking for retribution. The enemy Lash will be facing might be a strong one and, with the help of old and new allies, Lash will uncover the mystery surrounding the death of Abraham and finally get his revenge. Revenge is the fourth book in the Lash series by Tara Fox Hall. Though it was the fourth one, I think it can be read as a standalone since I haven’t read the first three books but I still understood the story pretty well. I love how this book was very detailed. I can still see in my mind’s eye the gore and carnage that was mentioned a lot in the story. Every scene and event was written particularly well and sometimes it was gross and made me cringe reading it, but it was good that a book can elicit such a reaction from a reader. The story was very engaging and gripping from the first page up to the last. This book was so good that I might go back to the first three to learn more about the history of Lash and the other characters mentioned.
