Leaders Always Go a Little Further ... Unless They Trip by Jason Howk is a one-of-a-kind leadership book that spotlights accomplished individuals the author has observed and what he has learned from them. These individuals include Lieutenant General Sir Graeme Lamb, Winston Churchill, and even the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway. In twelve chapters, Jason breaks down several main qualities that any great leader must have, such as having composure and being a good communicator and listener. This book also contains many military themes as an homage to the author's time in the U.S. Army. Whether you're a CEO of a conglomerate or a class president in your senior year, you will learn something from this book.
In Leaders Always Go a Little Further, Jason Howk emphasizes the importance of having a role model to look up to while recognizing that this role model is not perfect and only learning from their strengths. Instead of a typical leadership book where the author outright says what a leader should or should not do, Jason weaves it into simple and memorable stories. I loved that he included a notes page as it's far more convenient to jot down what resonated with me from the book and reflect that way. I also loved the way he emphasized the need to write clearly and consistently, as I feel it's not discussed enough in other books. For anyone looking for an easy and educational read, this book is for you!
