Lessons Learned is an exceptionally well-written romance with vividly drawn characters. The character arcs are expertly executed. Shayera is a multilayered heroine who, despite being a dominant instructor, has a past in the streets and an aunt with a cynical worldview. Asante first appears as a selfish man who craves the pleasures of the flesh but eventually becomes someone willing to risk everything for love. There are many surprises awaiting readers in this enthralling story, and the very nature of the retreat program unveils surprising twists. E. Nigma pairs raw, explicit sex with tantalizing humor, with moments like Asante’s hackneyed pick-up lines and bickering with Elliot, his friend. It is a story of redemption and second chances.
