Jason is a magically gifted, category seven wizard investigator who has helped many people and solved a record number of cases for the police by reading psychic imprints at crime scenes. Unfortunately, his current case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn when he is pulled into a conflict with Ebullio, a secret group that kidnaps people with a rare genetic profile. As he digs deeper, he discovers unsettling facts about the experiments and how they were connected to his own family. He realizes the group's plans may trigger an invasion from another world. To face the rising threat, Jason recruits the most powerful wizard in the world, his friend Josephine, and together they face a threat far greater than anything they have ever faced. Join Jason as he fights for both his family and the fate of the world in the third book of Wizards of Seattle: Liquid Crystal by John O'Riley.
Liquid Crystal by John O'Riley is imaginative, emotionally grounded, and impossible to put down. I found the worldbuilding to be clever and fascinating. It presented a society transformed and improved by magic, but it also grappled with the darker consequences of it. I just loved how immersive the plot and mystery were, along with the rising tensions. It left me wanting more with each passing page. The plot escalated perfectly from intimate mystery to world-threatening danger without once losing its character-driven feel. In a world in which magic was routine, Jason was a standout among the rest because of his rare abilities and persistence in staying a lowly psychometrist for the police department, despite his great potential. Jason's journey has both a personal and cinematic feel. His adventures are unique in their clever mix of psychic investigation and epic magical conspiracies. The partnership between him and Josephine brought power to the narrative, while the introduction of Ebullio was truly chilling. They were morally complex antagonists who added much depth and freshness to the storyline. A suspenseful and thoroughly engaging book.
