Livy Little Honey Bee is a delightful children’s picture book written by Celia Straus with illustrations by Mira Hirabayashi. While working with the other bees from the hive to collect pollen from flowers, honeybee Livy is often easily distracted by the beauty and colors all around her. She loves to dance, play, and imagine what it would be like to be different colors herself. The other bees are not happy that little Livy is not working with them as part of the team. Livy will have to meet with the Queen Bee and explain her behavior. The important role honeybees play in supporting the environment is highlighted throughout this entertaining story. This uplifting story is told in engaging rhyme and is filled with vibrant and playful illustrations.

Little Livy Honey Bee by Celia Straus shares a beautiful message about being confident in who you are. Little Livy understands that she is different from the other bees, but this does not concern her in any way and she remains true to herself. Livy’s courage and honesty will encourage young readers who may feel pressured to change or to be more like others. Livy’s unwavering trust in herself is refreshing and inspiring.
