Author Biography

My name is Lauren Elizabeth and I'm an eighteen-year-old senior in high school. From writing, to editing, to publishing this journey has been an eye opening experience. My three and a half year journey has taught me so much and given me the opportunity to experience something not every high schooler does. Although my story is unique I still have a pretty normal teenage life besides all the book stuff. I go to school everyday, work hard, play sports, participate in activities, and hang out with friends on the weekends. I also love to bake, volunteer, and spend time with my family. I always say to all the dreamers out there: dream on. Work hard towards your goals and dreams, don't let anyone ever tell you your not good enough. And if they do, prove to them that you are good enough.

Lauren Elizabeth’s "Looks of an Angel" is a lovingly crafted book that mixes themes of inspiration, belonging and friendship with riveting action and adventure. Set in a stunning universe that would have made Asimov proud, "Looks of an Angel" tells the tale of Aly Lapool, a regular Pluto girl with normal teenage problems. Kidnapped from her idyllic life, she is suddenly thrust into a world of insidious experiments and brutal death-matches. As Aly struggles to deal with what she has become, she must redefine her sense of attachment, belonging and morality, all while trying to avoid killing the only person who truly cares for her.

Lauren Elizabeth is an inspiration to all potential authors out there. Her characters are conflicted, hurt and all too human. They make mistakes and lash out as they come to terms with a new set of circumstances. Her writing draws blood, as each punch, each slash, comes at you from unexpected directions. I loved the universe she created and its limitless potential. In a mix of science fiction, fantasy and adventure, the novel has at its core the struggle of an individual to truly belong, something that everyone, regardless of age, can relate to. It is a rare piece of writing that makes the reader rue the flaws of the protagonist and feel the effects of her misguided and uncontrollable acts while still desperately rooting for her. Aly, like every teenager I know, suffers from a sense of limited perspective during a time of drastic change, causing her to become one of the most human fictional characters I have ever encountered. Her chemistry with Matt, as well as his own boundless faith in her, makes such an effective backdrop to the climactic ending that it is sure to make readers badger Ms. Elizabeth for the sequel. The writing and plot may be a bit too straight-forward and the powers and abilities bestowed on the characters may be far too much but those are just tiny pitfalls easily eclipsed by Lauren Elizabeth’s potential as a writer. I really love Matt but unlike him, I don’t think I can wait forever for the sequel to "Looks of an Angel" to come out.

Lauren Elizabeth's imagination knows no bounds as shown in her first novel, "Looks of an Angel". When the Neptwainians invaded Pluto, Aly's world turned upside down. In an act to save Matt, she was captured and taken to Neptune. Being the subject of some kind of an experiment, Aly morphed into a winged creature with awesome strength and powers. They subjected her to a series of life threatening tests until she met Matt again in a fight duel. Matt had also been captured and gone through a metamorphosis. Matt and Aly banded together and were able to go back to Pluto but things had changed at home. In their voyage to Earth, they were captured again by the Neptwainians and the story comes to more interesting twists and revelations.

Though a new author, Lauren Elizabeth's novel definitely has no shortage of fantasy and imagination. The whole universe is the setting of "Looks of an Angel" and it is a science fiction story that knows where its heart is. It is filled with action and a plot that keeps the reader on. It is amazing how the young author is able to grip my attention. From the beginning to end, the action in this story is exciting. Matt and Aly, the protagonists, are young people who had to make challenging decisions. They have to deal with life and death many times. They also have to determine reality from dreams. And in a universe gone mad because of the greed for power, they are maybe the only ones who can prevent the Neptwainians from fulfilling their grand design. Lauren Elizabeth may be a young author who still has to write her first bestselling book, but this is certainly a brilliant beginning for her.
