Magda Revealed by Ursula Werner presents a fresh and daring perspective on the life of Jesus (Yeshua) through the eyes of Mary Magdalene (Magda). In this story, two thousand years after his death, Yeshua worries about the state of the world and asks Magda to help clarify his life, teachings, and their relationship. Magda, a woman long misunderstood and labeled as a whore, reluctantly agrees to share her truth. She recounts their travels across Galilee, encounters with Roman rulers, and the miracles and betrayals they faced. Throughout her narrative, Magda clarifies misconceptions about Jesus and shares her journey of spiritual awakening and empowerment. She reveals the real story behind his death and reflects on their connection—whether romantic or spiritual—and the lasting impact she hopes her story will have.
How can one not be enthralled, even lost in Ursula Werner's reimagined world with historical figures? Magda’s voice arrested me from the very first sentence: "Call me Magda. You know me by other names... They are not mine.” She intrigued me and forced me to pay attention to her story. Magda Revealed is a powerful reimagining of Jesus' humanity and Magda's spiritual path. The story is well-crafted, and it will prompt you to question everything you thought you knew about Jesus. I kept asking: Why did the woman who was with Jesus during key moments never write about him? This author offers an imaginative, thought-provoking, and surprising response to the question.
This audio version is beautifully narrated by Mallory Fuccella in a clear voice that effectively captures the thoughts, emotions, and cadence that drive every word. The writing is lyrical and infused with spiritual insights, and the characters come to life in the narration, thanks to the excellence of Fucella's performance. I would love to read stories about other biblical characters, such as Thomas, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Judas. I hope Werner has more in her next project.
