Name-calling is an unclassified love language. We have special names for our loved ones—countless sweet names that explain an event or characteristic of theirs. In like manner, the men of old called God by names that demonstrated His great nature. Majesty by Sandra Valenzuela is a unique Christian devotional that explores 15 names of God and their meanings. El Shaddai (the Almighty God), who is all-sufficient for his people. Wonderful Counselor, the One who can guide you through His eyes and teach you which way to go. The True Vine, the One from whom all life and goodness come, and many more. My favorite names for God are Ebenezer and Sky Daddy (personally coined). What is your favorite name for God?

Although it can be read in one sitting, Majesty is so rich that it requires meticulous reading and meditation to be fully appreciated. The book is originally structured as a 15-day devotional. Each name starts a new chapter with a scripture passage that demonstrates the name under consideration, an explanation of the name, and a reflection section of questions and exercises. As I read about the meaning of each name and understood God’s magnificence, my trust and reverence for Him grew. In several instances, the reflection questions led me to specific, earnest prayers. I was blessed by this devotional, and I am grateful that I came across it at this time. Sandra Valenzuela invested a lot of effort and spirit in this work, and the outcome is truly empowering. I recommend Majesty to anyone who desires to know God more personally.
