Megan's First Crush: Megan's World, Book 6 is an animal-companion novel for children and preteens written by Pamela Foland. Megan was excited to be going back to school. She would be in eighth grade, the last year before high school, and she was especially looking forward to spending time with her school friends. Megan had always had both boy and girl friends, unlike some of the girls she knew who were just too nervous to talk to most boys. Jill couldn’t get over how easily Megan got along with everyone, but things soon became rather more complicated. When a new guy in school came over with her friend, Adam, and he was introduced to her, Megan was unable to get a word out in response. She even had trouble breathing, which soon morphed into a coughing fit. Her cheeks blazing red, she kept her eyes fixed on her shoes and finally calmed down enough to ask Jacob about his summer.
Megan's First Crush is a well-written and entertaining tale that continues the saga of Megan and the four kittens she’s raised from infancy. While it’s the sixth book in the series, Foland and Megan herself provide enough background detail to allow it to be read as a standalone. That said, I’d recommend reading every one of the books in this series -- they’re that good. Foland treats Megan’s first attraction to the opposite sex in a lighthearted and fun way. She also has her character continue working with Dr. Newton, the local veterinarian who has become her mentor, while juggling quality time with her kittens, completing her homework assignments and making time for friends. As with each of the books in this series, I especially enjoyed hearing Megan discuss her life with her kittens. Foland’s characters have come to feel like old friends, and her plot works quite well on a number of levels. Megan's First Crush: Megan's World, Book 6 is most highly recommended.
