In Mortgage & Mayhem by Carol E. Ayer, a mother and daughter team, Sierra Madison and her mother Autumn Cassidy, real estate agents in a gated community, become detectives to help solve a murder mystery to clear their friend Gail Redland of the murder. The author has written a very light-hearted murder mystery with some romance. It grips the reader from the opening paragraph right through to the end which has a very unusual twist in the tale, one that the reader will not be expecting.
Carol E. Ayer uses all her characters in the most appealing way, leading the reader through the story with stops and starts, twists and turns, which would at times make a person quite dizzy. However, the author uses her characters to the best advantage in the plot as the two main characters unravel the mystery, much to the unhappiness of Detective David Ryder who is in charge of the investigation. It is a fantastic read, well-written, and holds the reader’s attention throughout. Some parts will even cause the reader to laugh and smile at what the various characters are getting up to, causing more wrong turns than right ones until the final unexpected twist reveals all. Mortgage & Mayhem: The Mother-Daughter Realty Team Mysteries Book 1 would also suit young adults venturing into the grown-up world. I found it a most intriguing read and it is the type of book that one could enjoy more than once. I really enjoyed it.
