"Mrs. Morgan Rescues…Two Senior Dogs" is a children’s book about a retired widow, along with her dog Cinnamon who loves animals and rescues them. 'Mrs. Morgan' is a series of books, with her rescuing different animals each time. In this story, she takes in two older dogs because their owner has died and Shelby, their daughter, has an upcoming vacation so that she can’t take the dogs until after her vacation. Mrs. Morgan takes in Roscoe and Boscoe, ten year old Great Danes that are very gentle and loving. With the help of her eleven year old neighbor, who also loves animals, they both work together to make flyers to bring to the elementary school so that Mrs. Morgan can educate the kids about the advantages of adopting older pets.
Author Bonnie Jo Davis writes her children’s stories with a lot of warmth and her stories teach children important lessons about the care and adoption of pets. Also, she introduces sensitive subjects; for example, in this book, Davis introduces the subject of death with the death of the dog’s owner, in a sensitive and natural way. Her subject and storyline is very educational to young children as they go through her chapters. The readers and children being read to will learn about friendship and companionship between Mrs. Morgan and her young neighbor, the care and responsibility necessary to save and take care of pets, and many other important life lessons that are important for young children to learn today. I highly recommend this series to all animal lovers and especially to parents who want their children to read quality children’s books that entertain as well as educate.
