Operation Nightfall by Ty Mitchell is the second book in the V.E.N.O.M. series. This story finds Jake and Zasha in a quasi-normal life. As DIA assets, they have handlers and must be ready for assignment in the blink of an eye. But Do Shen, believed to be dead, has been assembling his own crew to take down the American infrastructure system, and he has help. The question is: how much help, and from whom? Zasha believes this is her and Jake's chance to break away and have a life free from espionage and the government. As intel sends the team across the globe, they keep missing their target and find themselves in deadly situations; tension builds. And when Do Shen’s attack is completed, will Jake and Zasha still be standing, or will the secrets they both keep turn them against each other?

Ty Mitchell has delivered another edge-of-your-seat, action-packed espionage thriller. The plot is cleverly constructed, and the formatting is exceptional, delivering snapshots of different times and meetings key to the events unfolding in the primary timeline. Jake is the perfect chameleon, seeming calm and trustworthy, and then turning into The Wraith, an unstoppable ex-V.E.N.O.M. agent now working for the DIA. But is he really working for their success? What makes Jake such an engaging protagonist is that he seems predictable and likable, but he has a dark side that leaves an unfathomable depth of secrets and unpredictability. The author has used a varied method of narration, using long, flowing prose to set up scenes or smooth over everyday events, then switching to succinct sentences and one-liners to build up tension and relay the emotions felt by the characters, such as when Zasha is in the hospital and decides what her ensuing steps will be. Jake had better beware, because when she catches up with him, he'll pay. I enjoyed Operation Nightfall immensely and cannot wait to read the following book in the series.

In Operation Nightfall: V.E.N.O.M. Series Book 2 by Ty Mitchell, after eighteen months, Jake has finally begun to believe that his violent past is behind him. V.E.N.O.M., the mercenary network he single-handedly dismantled, should have been nothing more than a painful memory. Jake and Zasha were given new identities and were protected by the government. They were given a chance to have a normal life. Jake is content with their new life, but Zasha wants to leave it behind. Jake and Zasha's peace is shattered when intelligence reveals a coordinated attack targeting the U.S. power grid. Jake and Zasha race to stop the attack and uncover a conspiracy. This mission was more than the briefing had suggested. Someone in the government is working against them, making it harder to know who they can trust.

Operation Nightfall by Ty Mitchell began with action that never stopped until the end. I was hooked from the start and could not turn the pages fast enough. I had to know what would happen next. The pacing is fast and suspenseful. It was hard to put the book down; I was afraid I would miss out on something important. Jake is determined to protect his new life, while Zasha wants to be independent. The events were descriptive, and it was easy to visualize the scenes. The book was expertly written and has all the components to be a great success. The ending was much better than I had expected. I have a feeling that we will hear from Jake again.

Ty Mitchell’s Operation Nightfall follows Jake Penny, a former mercenary known as the Wraith, whose eighteen months hidden in Ukraine end when the hunt for cyber strategist Liang Do Shen draws him back to the Defense Intelligence Agency. Russian operative Zasha returns beside him under Deputy Director Nadine Matthews, who offers the pair legitimate lives once the mission is finished. Across New York, Syracuse student Amir Qasemi-Bennett attracts dangerous interest after a cyber theft tied to his MARO alias reaches people far beyond campus. Special Agent Melekh Samson keeps Jake under close watch as the search spreads beyond official channels. With Do Shen staying ahead of every lead, Jake must decide how much of the Wraith he is willing to reclaim when old connections may offer the agency its best chance of finding the elusive strategist.

Ty Mitchell’s Operation Nightfall, book two in the V.E.N.O.M. spy thriller series, delivers outstanding espionage fiction with a pace that turns dangerous scenes into a test of nerve. Jake Penny is the kind of agent such a story calls for, reading a room in seconds whenever he needs to move unseen. His instinct shows itself in Palermo, where he enters Palazzo Mirto with a cleaning crew before edging along an exterior ledge. Zasha meets Jake stride for stride through her fierce independence, giving the mission another operative built for Do Shen’s diabolical reach. With the cyber strategist directing threats across national borders, the changing locations become part of the spycraft itself. Zürich’s opera house proves how effectively the place serves the hunt, as Melekh reads a suspect through repeated glances toward the exits. Readers drawn to intelligent spy fiction, and those who were blown away by the series' acclaimed book one, The Catalogue, should pop this on the top of their to-be-read list.

Ty Mitchell’s Operation Nightfall is the second book in the V.E.N.O.M. Series that grips readers. It has been eighteen months since the mercenary network, V.E.N.O.M., was dismantled, and Jake Penny, also known as The Wraith, is pulled out of hiding in Ukraine and thrown back into the control of Nadine Matthews, the DIA Deputy Director. He is with Zasha, the woman he loves but can never fully trust. The two are off-book assets, and while Jake wants to keep the new normalcy he has found, Zasha wants out. Their mission is to stop Liang Do Shen, a cyber-terrorist long presumed dead and a ghost that has haunted them for years. But something else is wrong: a traitor from within and a college hacker siphoning $6.2 million from an investment firm. But the cascading attack on the US infrastructure ignites a chase through Sicily, Düsseldorf, and Zürich. As the entire country braces for a blackout, Jake must reconsider a secret bargain. What chances do they have of exposing the traitor within and stopping Liang Do Shen?

Operation Nightfall is a well-plotted thriller that will appeal to fans of espionage, terrorist thrillers, and general crime fiction. Ty Mitchell’s prose is lean and doesn’t waste words. Every sentence, every paragraph break, and every chapter ending is calculated and timed for dramatic effect, turning the pace into something breathless. The action takes you from a barn rescue to the Palazzo Mirto bombing, from a sniper stalking Zasha through a dark hangar to opera-house chaos. The action creates tension, and the cliffhangers are heartbreaking most of the time. The three-part structure lets the premise build into a complex problem, with flashbacks to Nadine’s disillusionment and Jake's Garibaldi coffee-shop deal before escalating into a crisis in part two and finally exploding into an action-packed climax in the third part. The characters are superbly drawn, as this techno-thriller focuses on control and loyalty while exploring whether freedom is really possible for the characters. This book will not disappoint, especially for fans of Vince Flynn’s American Assassin and Mark Greaney’s The Gray Man.

Under the terms of their new arrangement with the authorities, Jake "the Wraith" Penny and his colleague, Zasha, have crossed the line in their dangerous profession and now help the authorities take down other shady characters. This puts them in an uncomfortable position: they frequently cross paths with some of their former colleagues. They soon discover this may come with complications as they face a familiar foe with an axe to grind with the government. Jake and Zasha will have to dig deep to beat him at his own game. That may not be so easy, especially when going up against someone who knows them well enough to predict their every move in Ty Mitchell's Operation Nightfall.

Ty Mitchell delivers a psychological thriller in Operation Nightfall. He uses flashbacks and their conversations to highlight the details of Jake and Zasha's arrangement with the authorities. This origin story approach fluidly links this book to the previous installment in the series while bringing new readers up to speed on the larger narrative. The dialogue alternates between conversational and strategic, with each character using brilliant wordplay to try to get members of the opposing faction to show their hand. Mitchell's descriptive narrative style uses subtle cues to suggest what lies between the lines whenever the characters interact. One example is Zasha's interrogation session with a young hacker. These elements come together in a riveting novel packed with strategically placed mini-puzzles that will require perceptive readers to think outside the box to solve and appreciate Mitchell's masterpiece.
