Murder for Shore by Aubrey Jackson and Beth Prentice begins with Daphne Wright narrating as she arrives at the beach house she inherited from her grandmother, Bernie, who passed away a few weeks earlier. Just as she pulls up with her suitcases, ready to settle in, she is greeted by her neighbor, Grayson, who wants to show her something he discovered behind her house in the sand. Daphne’s first day back immediately turns dark when he reveals a skull with a gold tooth. Constable Oliver Winston identifies the skull as belonging to Jenkins Butler, a man who disappeared inside the caves a couple of years ago. Soon, whispers spread that her grandmother may somehow be connected. As Daphne starts digging for answers, old friendships, hidden romances, and local legends begin to surface. What really happened in this oceanside town, and can Daphne uncover the truth before the past pulls her under?
Murder for Shore kicks off the Saltwater Bay Secrets Mystery series with its first novella. Aubrey Jackson and Beth Prentice have created an easy-to-read mystery full of heart, humor, and small-town charm. The writing flowed smoothly, with a good balance of light moments and serious ones without overwhelming readers. Daphne was smart, funny, and real—someone readers could instantly connect with. Grayson’s quiet, quirky presence gave the story warmth. The mystery builds at a comfortable pace, with clues that keep readers guessing. There were plenty of reasons that kept me smiling along the way. Fans of Bree Baker’s Seaside Café Mysteries or Ellie Alexander’s Bakeshop Mysteries would absolutely love Murder for Shore. It is the perfect start to a new beachside mystery series.
