Musings of a Military Maverick by Yoginder Sharma is a heartwarming memoir that is a testimony to the three things that last forever; faith, hope, and love. The book throws light on the unconditional love the author had for his Greek wife, Despina, whom he termed as his soul mate, and how he met her for the first time. The memoir also chronicles his journey from humble beginnings to the position of a general in the Indian Army. The trials and tribulations of the author’s life, a Greek girl being uprooted and adjusting to Indian military life, and their highs and lows of life make this memoir a compelling read.

The author’s honesty when it comes to sharing the intimate and personal moments of his life is refreshing, and many of the instances faced by his family are real and relatable to readers. The pictures included make this memoir tangible to readers. The book has its own tender moments coupled with some challenges, ranging from a war injury to a resignation, that evoke the curiosity of readers to learn more about the author’s personal life and the experiences that have shaped him to be the person he is. There are many insightful and profound moments in the book that will make readers reflect on the vagaries of life. The author’s strength in dealing with his combat wound, which made him lose a leg, is remarkable and there is a lot for readers to learn from his personal experiences, background, stories, family, and military life.
