My Father’s Joy by Gunnar E. Garrett Jr. is a psychological thriller about Abby, a young girl who has moved to a new town with her mother. Abby is a spunky pre-teen who tries to befriend her neighbor, Lucas, from the first day. Lucas wants nothing to do with her. Especially after she stands up for him against a pair of bullies that have been picking on him for what seems like a long time. Lucas seemingly has no friends. His mother is overly-friendly with the men and excessively cruel to him. One night when Abby sees Lucas sneaking out of his window, she follows him. After pulling off random acts of criminal mischief, the two of them become fast friends. But the real adventure begins when Abby announces that she has a gift for Lucas. From there, things quickly spiral out of control.
Gunnar E. Garrett Jr. held me captive on a psychological roller coaster ride with My Father’s Joy. The shocking thriller held me on the edge of my seat with each turn of the page. And that was only after I had locked my doors and closed all my windows and slid underneath my covers. The characters were awesomely developed and impressively realistic. The storyline is captivating. And just when I was sure I knew what was going on, the author took me for another spin. I completely enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys edge of your seat, twist and turn thrillers. Awesome job by Gunnar E. Garrett Jr.
