My Principal Is a Time Traveler (Probably) by Javier López centers on Ollie Finch, a fifth-grader who loves hard evidence but suddenly finds his logic tested at Vernon Elementary. Everything changes when Ollie spots a bizarre calendar note written two months in advance that correctly predicts a fire drill, even down to a sticky alarm handle. Convinced his principal is traveling through time, Ollie launches a secret notebook called 'The Voss File' and recruits his skeptical best friend, Theo, along with his very analytical classmate named Priya Anand. The trio spends months gathering strange clues, including an unannounced assembly headcount that happens before any paper attendance clipboards even reach the office. The stakes feel huge for Ollie as his confidence numbers climb with every bizarre event, leading up to a confrontation at recess. Will they actually catch a time traveler in the act?

Javier López’s My Principal Is a Time Traveler (Probably) delivers an energetic children’s mystery that keeps you turning pages just to see what clue pops up next. The author has an innovative writing style full of dry wit, letting the school setting ground the kids’ wild theories in a familiar world of school vending machines and permission slips. Ollie is a very entertaining lead because his intense determination collides with Theo’s constant doubts and Priya Anand’s sharp counterarguments. Watching this specific team dynamic evolve during their investigative efforts gives the story a fantastic rhythm. The plot is suspenseful and tightly wound because the clues are specific enough to keep the reader guessing how an ordinary school setting could produce such impossible situations. It’s a fun read for young readers who want a clever, engaging adventure that invites them to play detective right alongside the trio.
