Myst: An Isle of Myst Novel by Stacie Wilson is a fantasy tale featuring magic and the eternal battle between darkness and light. Unknown to her, Brianna St. James is destined for great things. In fact, she holds the power to the fulfillment of the prophecy that would stop the Shadow Master from taking control of her realm. Life has been normal for her, and just before she could make up her mind with regards to her studies, things change dramatically. She suddenly realizes that Earth has only been a temporary refuge for her and now she must return to face her destiny. With the help of her Guardian, Drustan, she’ll understand her past and recover memories that are shocking, but her ultimate journey is accomplishing a difficult task that would ensure the safety of her kind.
Stacie Wilson’s choice of the first person narrative is a good one as it allows her to draw the reader irresistibly into the worldview of the narrator, giving the reader an immediate connection with the characters. The writing is flawless with well-written dialogues that help to corroborate the plot and enhance character development. The conflict is introduced from the very start of the story; the reader senses the urgent need to have Brianna brought back from Earth and wonders what could possibly go wrong. I loved the use of powers or creatures like the Guardians and Light Keepers fighting against the Shadows and the Shadow Master. Myst: An Isle of Myst Novel offers a beautiful setting where magic is still possible and where heroes risk their lives for their kind. It’s a great success and a story that will find a place in the hearts of fantasy fans.
