Fun, fun, fun! That’s the best description I have for New York Dolls, the new book by author Catherine L. Hensley. Following the story of assistant Denton Hodges as she works on her first major assignment for Glitter magazine, she has one crazy night and finds herself the new BFF of Amber Donovan, a hot starlet, seemingly intent on partying her way through New York City, and the love interest of Hollywood heartthrob Chris West. One problem? Neither of them knows that Denton works for Glitter, and that she’s supposed to be writing a feature story that showcases the nitty-gritty of their lives. Another problem? Denton just might be truly falling for Chris, and finds out that there’s way more to Amber than meets the eye. Will she really be able to write something that will certainly ruin those relationships and perhaps their lives?
I so enjoyed this book. As a huge fan of chick lit novels, I’ve found myself becoming a bit burned out by them. So many of them are starting to seem the same, almost as if the authors in this genre have banded together and are following the same cookie-cutter format. Not so with the work of author Catherine L. Hensley. Her fun and fresh writing style practically leaps off the pages and her character development, especially of Denton, but even for most of the minor characters, is phenomenal. Parts of the story are laugh out loud funny, parts heartwarming, and parts flirty and a little bit sexy; this book would appeal to anyone who loves chick lit, fun reads with interesting, well-drawn characters, or just a good book in general. Make sure you’ve got enough time to read New York Dolls because once you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down!
