Annabelle was a dreamer. She particularly liked to dream about all the things she would do when she grew up. She was sad when people told her that she couldn’t do these things. Her parents reassured Annabelle, telling her that she could be anything that she wanted to be if she worked hard and studied. They also told her that whenever anyone said she couldn’t do that, she should say, “Oh, yes I can!” She started by thinking about being a doctor or a nurse, then imagining someone telling her that she couldn’t. She practised saying, “Oh, yes I can!” So when someone told her that she couldn’t be a famous scientist, or an astronaut, or an artist, or anything else, Annabelle was ready with, “Oh, yes I can!”

Lara Nance’s delightful and colorful picture book, Oh, Yes I Can! An Adventures of Annabelle Book, is a must-read for all young readers. The story inspires young people to reach for the stars, to dream big and believe in themselves, to believe that they can be whatever they want to be as long as they work hard and study. Young people need to be constantly reminded of their potential to think big, to dream and to work towards their dreams. Every child has potential; every child has the right to believe in themselves, to believe in what they can do. After all, Annabelle teaches us how because, in the end, Annabelle goes to sleep happy, believing in all of her inner, hidden potential. “Oh, Yes She Can!”
