Author Biography

Lindsey Young is a Twin Cities-based writer and storyteller, balancing her full-time work for the Minnesota Vikings with her passion for writing children’s stories. A native of Anoka, Minnesota, and a graduate of the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, Lindsey brings heart and authenticity to her writing. Once a cautious and sensitive child, she now views her experiences with anxiety as a strength and uses them to encourage and uplift young readers.

Lindsey is a follower of Jesus; a proud aunt to Audrey, Henley and Oliver the Brave; and dog mom to the real-life Tater Tot. She enjoys sending handwritten letters, capturing moments through photography and surrounding herself with bright colors. Lindsey aims to tell stories that remind people — especially children — that they are seen, valued and immensely loved.

Olivia the Brave by Lindsey Young is a lovely children's book about anxiety and worry. It follows Olivia, an eight-year-old girl with many interests. She loves to make up songs, dance, play hide-and-seek with her brother, and play with her dog. She also enjoys reading books. However, Olivia can't always do all the things she wants. She sometimes feels nervous and sad and experiences tummy aches even when she's at school. On a special visit with Dr. Lemon, a child therapist, Olivia learns that what she experiences—the tummy aches, sweaty hands, and scary thoughts—is called anxiety. After she discovers more about anxiety, Olivia gets some special tools to manage her emotions. Most importantly, she learns that it's okay sometimes to feel sad or frustrated and that everybody has different abilities and different challenges to deal with.

Olivia the Brave by Lindsey Young offers a thoughtful and helpful approach to managing worry and anxiety, while also fostering children's bravery. With an engaging and relatable storyline and gorgeous artwork, this book encourages and empowers children to manage their worries using simple techniques, helping them feel more in control of their anxiety and able to enjoy their childhood. This book is the perfect addition to any family with children. It nicely captures the physical symptoms of anxiety and helps kids understand their emotions, that they're not alone in their challenges, and how to work through them. It's for all anxious children who are frustrated because they feel different or feel they can't join others in fun activities. I highly recommend it to parents, caregivers, and teachers.
