Some children have a hard time trying to read as the letters seem to squirm, and they find it difficult to form the words in their heads. Olivia's Gift by Victoria Linnartz follows a little girl named Olivia who has a problem just like that. Olivia loves listening to the stories told by her mom, but she has trouble reading them out loud. When her parents take her to the psychologist, he diagnoses her with dyslexia, a learning disability. Olivia's parents enroll her in a special school, where she meets other children just like her, and they use new creative ways to spell and learn letters and words. Soon, Olivia realizes that through hard work and a bit of patience, she can read all the stories she wants. Her specific disability enhances some of her other abilities.

Olivia's Gift is a heartwarming tale about overcoming challenges. Author Victoria Linnartz tells a beautiful story that showcases how people with dyslexia can still learn to read and write and enjoy the many different things that books have to offer. This is a short picture book that young readers will find both educational and entertaining. The illustrations by Driss Chaoui splash color onto the pages and make Linnartz's characters shine. You can't help but adore Olivia as she works to learn the lessons at her new school. The book highlights the importance of creativity and imagination and shows how these attributes help us overcome our unique challenges. I very much enjoyed Olivia's Gift and highly recommend parents introduce this wholesome picture book to their children.
