Payne's Song is a Southern crime drama romance novel by Dale and Rosanna Mouser. Singer/songwriter Payne McCarty and his best friend Skeeter, a racecourse jockey, travel to Nashville to confront publishing house owner Roger Durwood about Payne's stolen song, only for Payne to end up in county jail. Now, back in Texas, Skeeter finds himself in a quandary when his boss loses his life in a freak flood, and he is beaten up on the orders of the local drug dealer, Red Phillips, who also fixes the races. Meanwhile, their band, Nova Scotia, is set to perform at Willie Nelson's Fourth of July picnic. However, after meeting country music sensation Rusti King, Payne falls in love, and Rusti is determined to get his song's rights back. Additionally, Skeeter hatches an audacious plan to take revenge on Red.
Prepare for an intoxicating adventure featuring country music, romance, and a sprinkling of crime/action drama with Payne's Song. Dale and Rosanna Mouser tell a captivating tale full of heart, humor, and witty dialogue that is bound to delight romance and music lovers alike. The authors have crafted some vibrant characters who win your heart with their salt-of-the-earth personalities and Southern charm that you simply can't resist. The friendship between Payne and Skeeter holds the narrative together, while the love story between Payne and Rusti feels like the novel's heartbeat. I thoroughly enjoyed the interpersonal dynamics between the various characters, and the humor-filled dialogue made their interactions all the more entertaining. Payne's Song is just the book you need if you're looking for a relaxing read that also entertains. Recommended to readers who love slice-of-life stories.
