S.C.A.R.S. - Cia is the second book in the series by Olivia L. Rigg. Cia Navarro is a corporate litigator and defense lawyer whose past experiences and family history fuel her drive for justice. Cia has a new client, Elena Cruz, who works in a payroll job and is facing intimidation from her employer. Elena’s nineteen-year-old sister, who works for the same company, has left home. As Cia investigates, she finds an interconnected web of seemingly ordinary businesses -- payroll, transport, logistics, housing. It all begins to add up to something much more sinister. She is helped by an investigator, Jade Smith, who seems to have all the answers, and to whom she is attracted. And then there’s Aiden Brooks, a prosecutor, who is completely reliable and trustworthy, and trying to bridge the gap to her heart.
Fans of legal and psychological thrillers will appreciate the skillful plot, taut narration, and razor-sharp repartee in S.C.A.R.S. - Cia. Cia's skills and commitment make her a unique character, and all the others are likewise drawn with detail and understanding. Olivia L. Rigg has an impressive understanding of corporate litigation and the work of special task forces, and she deploys it with good effect, keeping the reader on edge as the action unfolds. The depiction of the conflicts, comfort, and support of family life highlights the contrast with the high-stakes investigation. Overall, this is a chilling account of the kind of crimes that continue below the surface of ordinary life, and what it takes to uncover and stop them.
